Alberta WPACs

Under Alberta's Water for Life strategy, Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils (WPACs) are multi-stakeholder, non-profit organizations that assess the conditions of their watersheds and develop plans and activities to address watershed issues. They are the source of new ideas and opportunities to help manage and protect our provincial watersheds.

Alberta WPACs conduct education and stewardship activities throughout each of their watersheds. WPACs typically include representatives of key stakeholders in the watershed, including provincial, municipal and federal governments, important industrial sectors, conservation groups, and aboriginal communities. They engage watershed residents in their work and seek consensus on solutions to watershed issues.

Currently, eleven watersheds have organizations formally recognized as Alberta WPACs.
